Wellington man Shane Duncan may not have pulled on his rugby boots to take part in a national competition before, but he doesn't have to this time.
Tonight, it will be all about the brain as Mr Duncan, along with six others from around the country, test their rugby knowledgeas they take part in the final of the Steinlager Rugby Head quiz competition being held at Lonestar Newmarket.
Radio Sport brand engagement manager Scott Aitchison says they started their road trip a month ago after whittling down thousands of online quiz entries before selecting 15 finalists at random for each region.
A road trip then began, starting at Dunedin and heading all the way up to Auckland. Mr Duncan, co-owner of The Juice and Smoothie Company, says he regularly attends quiz nights so taking part in the competition was a no-brainer.
"I'm an avid Radio Sport listener and bit of a rugby nut so the two of them added together. When I go out with my partner we go to quiz nights, I quite enjoy those, but I'm only ever any good at the sports. I tend to answer all ten questions so have got a bit of a trivia brain, so it just made sense, rugby's my passion and there's also $10,000 up for grabs."
As for his thoughts on this year's Rugby World Cup - which kicks off on Friday - the All Blacks were the obvious choice but England will be a team to watch seeing as they were playing on home turf.
"The All Blacks by a country mile ... it's really theirs for the losing I believe."
Also competing tonight is Steve Downey of Dunedin, Geoff Schroder of Christchurch, Shane Duncan of Wellington, Ben Findlay of Tauranga, Bruce McLean, Hamilton, Jamie Wall of Auckland and wildcard Michael Praynes, also of Auckland.
