Rude jube found in school canteen lolly mix

A rude jube has caused a stir at Orewa College after a student found an unusually shaped lolly in a canteen mix bag.

This was the second such incident to happen in New Zealand in recent months, with genitalia-shaped gummy lollies found in a sweet bag sold in Dunedin late last year.

Orewa College sent parents an email informing them of the incident.

"It has come to our attention that there has been a one-off inappropriate sweet found in a bag of mixed confectionery sold through the school canteen," the email said.

"We have phoned the supplier and cancelled all orders and removed all packets from the shelf.

We will no longer sell this product."

The school declined to comment further on the incident but it is believed the lolly was shaped like male genitalia.

Dunedin man Barrie Aburn told the Otago Daily Times last September he found two rude lollies, one shaped like male genitals and one like a naked baby with a penis, in a bag of sweets his daughters bought him for his birthday.

Mr Aburn's partner, Jacqui Hawkins, said at the time she thought it was "disgusting."

"I don't find anything amusing about it at all. I find it disgusting."

The manager of the company who imported the sweets, Willem Van de Geest of Nelson, apologised at the time and said he hadn't realised "inappropriate" lollies were among those he had imported.

He told the Otago Daily Times the sweets were supposed to be sent to Asia, where people "wouldn't even blink an eyelid" at the shapes, which were considered there to be symbols of health and fertility.
