Roller crushes worker in Northland

A man was crushed last night when the 14-tonne roller he was operating rolled 14m down a bank in Kaiwaka, 18km northwest of Wellsford.

The man was working on an access road on private land in Browns Rd.

Fire Service and ambulance staff arrived to find the man pinned under the roller and already dead.

It is understood he was working on road construction for a new housing estate.
