Revamped BMW 4 Series muscles up

BMW NZ will be launching the 4 Series coupe in New Zealand in mid-October.

Although BMW's all-new 4 Series coupe won't arrive in New Zealand for two months, the company has released model and price details.

Two models of the fourth generation of BMW's premium mid-size coupe will be available for Kiwi buyers - the 428i for $98,000 and the 435i with M-Sport Package from $126,500.

The 4 Series coupe is more muscular in design than the 3 Series, with a large, wide air-intake in the front apron which accentuates the vehicle's increased width.

The air-intake is capped at both ends by apertures for aerodynamically motivated air-curtains which are complemented by air-breathers behind the front wheels.

The coupe's sloping roofline highlights the windows' double swage line that reduces over the rear wheels to accentuate flared arches.

The 4 Series coupe is bigger than the model it is replacing. The overall length has increased 26mm to 638mm, width has increased 43mm to 1825mm and height has decreased 16mm to 1362mm.

While the 4 Series coupe's chassis is based on the latest 3 Series sedan, changes have been made to promise a higher level of accuracy and agility.

The chassis has been extended, with 50mm added to the wheel base and increases to the track width - 45mm extra at the front and 80mm at the rear.

The 428i coupe has a TwinPower turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, with 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

The 435i Coupe has a turbo in-line six-cylinder petrol engine which pumps out 225kW and 400Nm of torque.

Each BMW 4 Series coupe has auto stop/start, brake energy regeneration, ECO PRO mode and on-demand ancillaries such as electric power steering.

Safety is ensured with the full array of BMW dynamic stability control systems, six airbags covering all seating positions, Active protection which initiates protective measures if an accident is imminent and a powerful braking system with front and rear inner vented discs.

Driver awareness and visibility is well served by the standard front and rear park distance control rear view camera, LED headlights with high-beam assistant, auto headlight control and rain sensor, as well as an anti-dazzle interior rear view mirror.

The comfort of the occupants is catered for with a two-zone automatic climate control system, heat/sun protection glazing of the windows, electric sports seats with memory function for driver and front passenger, Dakota leather upholstery and a range of storage options, including 40:20:40 split fold rear seats and bottle holders in the front door pockets.
