Residents mark day of support

The neighbours of Tauweru turned out to embrace Neighbours Day Aotearoa.

Neighbours Day Aotearoa is a national celebration of neighbourliness held in March.

About 33 residents joined in the celebration complete with a celebration cake.

Tauweru resident Brenda Snee said it was a simple, enjoyable and an important celebration.

"We are already a Neighbourhood Support group and getting together occasionally seems like the natural thing to do," she said.

"It was really fun."

"I'm aware of a dozen or so areas that celebrated Neighbours Day," said Masterton Neighbourhood Support co-ordinator Sam Andrews-Paul.

The Tauweru residents registered their event and received $100 to offset the cost of catering, supported by Masterton Safe and Healthy Community Council.

The day was so successful that plans are being made to have a couple of winter sessions, inviting guests to talk about the history of the area.
