Around 200 residents of the Christchurch suburb of Brooklands have turned up to the domain to farewell their suburb.
It's one of many suburbs to be zoned red following the earthquakes.
Around 500 Brooklands properties have to be emptied by April, but it is believed half of the residents have
already left.
Locals have decided to throw the party today as a way to gather those who remain, to reflect and to say goodbye.
There will be speeches, kapahaka, and the release of paper boats and flowers.
