Rescue crews have been stood down for the evening during the search of a person who fell off the rocks into the notoriously treacherous water at Auckland’s Piha Beach.
Police said they were called to assist their “emergency rescue colleagues” at 2.37pm.
The police’s Eagle helicopter is being used to help search for the person in the water after they were washed away at the Blue Pool at the south of the beach.
Surf Life Saving also launched two inflatable rescue boats as crews continue to search for the person.
Both the boats and the Eagle have been stood down for the evening, and the person has not yet been located.
