A major operation is under way to catch two people suspected of digging up a Wellington park.
Police are investigating reports of "suspicious activity" in the public park above the northern entrance of the Terrace tunnel.
Two people were digging a section of the park about 5pm yesterday and it's
possible the mystery diggers have been there on other occasions too.
When officers searched the area they found part of the park have been damaged "as a result of being dug up".
Two shovels were found hidden in nearby bushes.
