Two people dead after separate Wairarapa morning crashes

Two people died in separate crashes in Wairarapa this morning and another person is seriously injured.

Police were called to the scene of the first crash on State Highway 2 on Remutaka Hill at 6.30am.

“Sadly, one person died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said. “

A second person received serious injuries in the crash. We extend our condolences to their families at this difficult time.”

The road has since reopened and police thanked motorists for their patience.

A Wellington Free Ambulance spokeswoman said they responded with an ambulance and a rescue helicopter.

A Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand spokesperson said the seriously injured person was in critical condition in Te Pae Tiaki Wellington ED.

Police also confirmed another person died in a single-vehicle crash on Kokotau Rd, Carterton, about 7.30am.

The person was found dead at the scene, a spokesperson said.

The road has since reopened.
