A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after cash, electronics and clothing were stolen from Relay for Life tents while the charity event was in progress in Masterton overnight Saturday.
The boy was referred to Youth Aid yesterday after police searched his Masterton home.
They found "numerous items" stolen from Relayfor Life which was held at Queen Elizabeth Park beginning in the late afternoon on Saturday and extending through to Sunday morning.
The relay involved continuous walking around a set circuit by teams and was a fundraiser for the Cancer Society.
The Wairarapa event raised $120,000 for cancer research.
Items taken from various tents on the weekend included wallets, cash, iPods, cellphones, clothing, a backpack, and sunglasses. Some of the stolen items were recovered during the house search.
Further inquiries are being carried out by police in an effort to recover stolen property still outstanding.
