A new children's website aims to get children involved with protecting the environment by naming them honorary agents for the Auckland Regional Council.
A cartoon character, Agent Ani, will feature in cartoons on the website encouraging kids to become agents and complete 10 missions.
Agents will receive ID badges
and a secret multimedia pack with downloadable activities.
The council plans to launch the site by July to complement the existing ARC site.
Its creator and designer, Damon Keen, says there is a definite need for the website.
"Children need to be informed as well. They're an important part of the community," Mr Keen says.
But the site is more than just a game to keep the kids occupied.
"There's a lot of websites with clubs but the thing about this one is that they'll be doing something real."
The missions will range from reducing air pollution by walking to school, to enjoying Auckland's regional parks.
Mr Keen describes Agent Ani as an eco-superhero but not quite the wimp Captain Planet is.
"We're aiming for something that looks flash and cool as opposed to your usual educational site."
