On the track, for instance, big things will be expected of middle distance star Alison Andrews-Paul, who will contest the intermediate girls 800m and 1500m events. If past times are anything to go by, the 1500m is perhaps her best chance of a top-three placing but it would not be surprising if she gave the 800m a decent shake as well.
Sprinters Sian Chapman and Alex Howden will be up against formidable opposition in their respective senior girls and boys 100m and 200m races but they have shown the ability to rise to the occasion at top level age group competition and the same can be said of Edward Hewitt in the 400m.
Finn Yeats could be a "dark horse" in the intermediate boys 100m and 200m events and even more so in the high jump where a medal is well within his scope.
There should be some bold efforts too from Wairarapa in the throwing arenas, especially the hammer throw where Tom Quinn (senior boys) and Emma Kruszona (intermediate girls), have been showing excellent form of late. And Katie Smith has the potential to be among the front-runners in the senior girls shot put and discus.
