Rare kiwi sighting in Nelson

A rare kiwi sighting on Nelson's Dun Mountain has hopes soaring that it might be living there.

Runner Simon Bloomberg was taking part in the Dun Mountain run at 11am on October 11 when he spotted the kiwi on the side of the track.

Mr Bloomberg said he had no doubt the bird was a kiwi and not a weka.

A fellow runner also saw the bird and their sightings were reported to the Department of Conservation.
