Rapist Schollum denied parole

An ex-police officer jailed for a rape in Mt Maunganui in 1989 has been denied parole.

The Parole Board said there was a risk Bob Schollum will offend again.

It said Schollum still maintained his innocence, claiming the sex was consensual.

He told the board he was now ashamed and embarrassed by his behaviour, especially as he was on duty and in police uniform.

But the board pointed out he showed no remorse and had taken absolutely no responsibility for the crime.
