Rants & Raves: Thank you to lovely taxi driver

The other morning while I was parking on a side street in Ponsonby, a car pulled in to park in front of me (parallel parking). As the two young women got out of their car, I mentioned to them that they could move back a lot further if they liked (as there was a large gap between my car and theirs and this would allow for another parking space to be available). Their response was, "Nah, I can't be bothered," and they jetted up the road. I had to wonder why people appear to be too lazy to be considerate of others.

My husband and I and our two grandchildren were picked up from the Hotel Grand Chancellor by a taxi last month and driven to Vector Arena. I left my handbag in the cab, so was rather anxious. On my return, the reception staff informed me that our kindly driver from Auckland Co-op Taxis had returned it within 15 minutes. A big "thank you" to a lovely gentleman.

My daughter and her husband and five children were going to go to the Food Show at the weekend, but it was going to cost them $131 just to get in. As a result, they never went, and neither did I. Then I notice over the weekend they reduced the adult price by $3. Wow! And then they want you to spend more money when you get in ...

Great Disney On Ice show, but while waiting outside the train station afterwards on Sunday, I got chatting to an upset lady with two girls aged about 6 and 8. They were waiting for a car ride home, instead of their planned train trip. Apparently it is no longer okay to allow anyone to travel on Auckland's rail network with Disney-themed metallic balloons.

Thank you to Miss Hannah Tatania. (Sorry if I spelled it wrong, it was a long time ago.) It was when you were out of teachers' training college and I was in the lower standards at Papatoetoe Primary School. I never thought until I was nearly 30 that Maori language, songs, learning to make poi, the basics of making a flax skirt, using the poi and other things were not part of the official curriculum. I believe you went on to opera. I am now 64. Thank you.
