Neighbours that buy a house next to a playground, then complain about kids making too much noise and having fun, and getting the flying fox shut down. Appalling.

Broke down in the Coromandel last week. While we waited for the AA 10 passing motorists stopped to offer help. Heartfelt thanks to them. A big bouquet to the AA too.

Stopping for gas in Whangarei, we pulled in behind a car; we waited then I went and asked where the driver was only to be told that the driver had walked 300m down the road to use a toilet and that the driver had the keys so they couldn't move the car. I told them how rude this was and went back to my car. Then one of the ladies (?) in the back seat gave us the one-finger salute.

My wife and I got a phone call from our son to say that our 10-month-old granddaughter had been taken to White Cross Medical Centre. We weren't sure exactly where to go so headed in the general direction until we saw a police car on the side of the road. When I asked for directions the cop took one look at what must have been the stressed-out old codger and simply said "would you like to follow me?" Would I ever! Three minutes later we were there. For the record Bubs is fine - bad reaction to an insect bite.

Lucky Mission Bay, Kohi, etc, beaches having their bins cleared, rubbish picked up and toilets cleaned daily. We live in Papatoetoe and have been waiting 11 days so far for one rubbish bin to be cleared beside the Brett Ave entrance carpark at Puhinui Park. It is a fly-ridden, overflowing mess with beer cartons, empty bottles and squashed cans stacked around it. The other one bin near the Plunket Ave entrance is also stuffed to the gills so both bins now join the rubbish- and weed-choked pond and stagnant outlets as park scenery.
