Rant Why do beauticians tell you to throw out any product that's more than six months' old, then try and sell you a product at fabulously expensive rates saying it willlast you a year? Terri Kessell
Rave Massive thanks to the staff at Starship children's hospital and the Ronald McDonald family rooms who have been amazing during our son's surgery and subsequent illness. The nursing staff are professional, friendly and so helpful. As for the Ronald McDonald family rooms, there are no words to truly describe you - you are a lifeline in crisis, a calm in the storm. We are so eternally grateful. Sean and Tracey Logan and little Nico

Rave Not only did Specsavers win the Ad of the Year award but another winner is John of Albany Specsavers for going further than the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. Greatly appreciated and also, perhaps little known, the fact that second-hand specs are passed on to Third World countries. Norma
Rant To the irresponsible dog owners who deposit their plastic bags plus contents, alongside the northern end of the Te Ara Tahuna walkway in Orewa: Please desist. It reflects badly on all responsible dog owners. Maybe it would help if the council were to add more rubbish bins along the walkway. Ruth
Rave Caught train to the Santa Parade for the first time. Very pleasantly surprised to discover that travel is free for the day. After the parade, was expecting a tortuous trip home with thousands descending at once. But all was handled very efficiently. Anna McDonald
