I wonder if disgruntled Hone Harawira has given a thought to how many breakfasts of Weet-Bix and milk the $30,000 for his recount could have bought for his so-called impoverished Far North?

Rave
KiwiRail comes out tops for me with their new electric trains. Best part ofmy commute every day now is from Britomart to Onehunga and back on the new electric train, and they are smarter and better than the Sydney trains by far. And a rave, too, for all the very friendly and helpful KiwiRail staff on and off the train.
I despise being called "love", "dear" and even "sweetie" by strangers. I freeze them with a cold, hard look but they are usually oblivious to what they say. I also try not to patronise their shops or cafes again. These endearments are lazy and patronising. Just stop it!
To those people in our community whose spontaneous, courageous and unselfish actions save the lives of others: thank you so much. We are so lucky to live in New Zealand.
Wendy Craig.
Rant
May I support the rants of Ann Mark and Ian Brown and say how it annoys me to have to unwrap yards of cling wrap to uncover my deli sandwich etc. Even taking on board good hygiene practices, less is more here.

Rave
The Auckland Diwali Festival 2014 at Aotea Centre and Queen St - two days celebrating India's biggest festival with the wider Kiwi community. Wonderful array of sounds, sights and food. The scale of this event gets bigger by the year, and the number of those attending swells. Standards of acts on stage get better; at par with professional performances seen on television. A Cricket World Cup 2015 marquee at the event, to promote the tournament next year, was the icing on the Mithai (an Indian sweet).
