Shame on the cruel person who dumped a tiny, helpless kitten in a paper bag beside a bus stop on Te Atatu Rd. The kitten (about 8 days old the vet said) has found love and kindness. He is thriving and adorable.

A huge thank you to the whole accident response team on Waiheke Island who are to be commended for their amazingly quick response to last Sunday's road accident. Their total professionalism and their compassion and understanding was superior.

Thumbs down to Waipuna Conference Centre in Mt Wellington on Thursday night when we were attending the Santarelli School of Dance performance. This event runs every year and the venue is very busy with patrons, minimal staff run off their feet and queues. We paid for drinks and wedges and waited 35 minutes - until the show was starting. We asked one of the waiters about our order, there appeared to be no communication between wait staff, kitchen and bar staff and she just shrugged her shoulders. I requested a refund, was told they couldn't do it and [they] virtually ignored me. I guess that is one way of making revenue.

I live in rural Northland. On Friday morning I completed my New Zealand passport renewal application online. At 11.30am I received an email confirming receipt of the application. At 3.41pm I received another email notifying me that my application had been approved and my passport dispatched. On Saturday morning it arrived with the rural delivery contractor!
