Why, when the traffic lights go green, does the front car in the queue take an age to move forward? I can understand them waiting a second or so to make sure nothing is coming through a red at them, but not longer, i.e. anything up to 10 or even 12 seconds. They know they are going to get through on the green light, but it is very frustrating for those waiting behind them, especially on a big intersection with a long change of lights, with many cars having a much longer wait than necessary.

On Anniversary Day, my wife and I went to Waiheke Island to walk the trail. Well done to the organisers and volunteers for the transport, directions, sculptures, eating places, etc. What a great day out.

To the social misfits who took pleasure in spraying graffiti on the Orakei Basin Boardwalk: get a life and leave well alone for the pleasure of 99.5 per cent of others who enjoy this walk.

Late Friday, my computer keyboard crashed out. I raced into Rotorua Dick Smith's for a replacement; they were out of stock but directed me to Warehouse Stationery just down the mall. I asked if they would still be open, and the Dick Smith helper checked on the computer and told me I had another 20 minutes. In that time I was back home and up to speed. That is service with a smile.

I cannot believe someone is complaining about the Auckland Council sweeping the road at 5am. Of course they do it early in the morning before the traffic. I live on the North Shore and how nice it would be to have the gutters swept at any time. Before it became the Auckland Super City, this used to happen; now they never get cleaned.

Last Friday, I had a driving mishap in the drive-through lane of KFC Pt Chevalier. My 4-year-old grandson was in the car, there was persistent rain outside the car ... not an ideal scenario. I would like to thank the girls/women who tried to help, especially the woman in the Fletchers vehicle who gave me a much-needed hug. Ladies, you rock! The fireman, who despite a back injury assisted the good-humoured Auckland Towing driver in trying conditions. Gentlemen, you also rock! Apologies for not thanking you at the time. May good things come to you all.
