I get really annoyed seeing large buses travelling around Auckland's suburbs with one or two people (sometimes none) on board. What a waste of fuel, road-user charges, etc. Surely the bus firms must be able to tell on what routes and at what times a small bus or minivan would suffice. Might help to keep our constantly rising rates bills down a little.

I would like to commend Brian, Chris and Sheela at the NZ Maritime Museum. I was photographing my son at the wheel of the ferry Takapuna when my phone fell in between the wall and window of the ferry and became stuck. With the help of these kind people, my phone was retrieved ... but I did not manage to get the photo of my son. Otherwise a very enjoyable afternoon.

Why do people make no effort to speed up after pulling out in front of you while driving? It forces me to adjust my speed rapidly or brake hard. Basic road codes seem to have been forgotten of late.

I found some old photographic slides and needed a slide viewer to see what they were. I went into Impact Photographics on Leith Place in Tokoroa to see about purchasing a viewer. They asked how many slides I had and then offered to loan me a viewer for free, and transferred the slides onto a disc at a very reasonable price. Well done, Impact, for not selling me something I may never use again.

Have just been to make a donation and plant messages on the Domain giant poppy with grandkids. Got a $40 parking fine for parking on the grass verge for 10 minutes. So much for the Anzac spirit by the hovering parking warden.

I am amazed at the generosity of Craig Turner, of Sleepyhead Beds, who has said he will support his employee Tai Malu for the foreseeable future until other arrangements can be made, after Mr Malu collapsed at his home. What a great employer!

Why do so many food outlets provide drinking straws that are too short to use? The straws sink to the bottom of the bottle, where they are unusable. They may as well provide a plastic fork to drink from.
