I'm a car driver, a cyclist and a pedestrian. I aim to follow the road code and be courteous whichever mode I'm using. Recently when cycling on Rata St/Ash St I have twice been told by car drivers I should "get on the footpath". The road rules say cyclistscannot legally cycle on a footpath unless it has been designated a shared path. Shared paths are both a blessing and a curse. No matter how many we have cyclists will always need to use roads to get to them. Drivers, please be courteous to cyclists on the road.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote and complained about my wife's walking stick being taken after she left it behind in a shop at Chartwell Square. A week later she got a phone call from the management to say that her walking stick had been handed in, so perhaps my rant was unfounded. There are some nice people about after all!
Re Carol's roundabouts rant. Actually you MUST indicate left when you exit, (although you can't always do it well in advance). But with the indicating right when going straight through I couldn't agree more, and add those turning right that continue to indicate right as they are exiting! And as for the small forests they plant so you can't see oncoming traffic ...
Britomart is beautifully quiet and fume-free now that all the trains are electric! Roll on the CRL!

A big thumbs down to the thoughtless person who closed all the public toilets at Waitakere Mega Centre well before the shops had closed on Sunday. I saw at least six people put in an embarrassing situation. I now know why the car park lift always smells like a urinal.

I was at Manukau Superstrike catching up with old school mates when we saw the workers running, pointing to a commotion near the far lanes. At first we thought it was a fight but as we got closer we could hear a small child crying and the mother screaming for help. The kid, only 2 or 3, got his hand stuck in the bowling returns slot. A man came over and finally the machines were turned off and he pulled a metal slot out and freed the young boy's finger. Luckily it was still intact and no blood was spilled. This man saved the boy's life. He said every day he's telling parents to watch their kids and every time he's sworn at and told to mind his own business. I told him to never stop doing what he's doing. Legend.
