The head of news at Radio New Zealand has stepped down.
Don Rood said that his head of news position had been disestablished.
He has worked with the state broadcaster for 31 years and spent the past 10 years as head of news.
Rood said he opted to not apply for any of the four senior management vacancies created under a new structure.

The RNZ news operation will be overseen by a new position - head of content, and applications closed this week.
Chief executive Paul Thompson has said the appointee would decide what changes were needed in the news division.
Staff approached by the Herald said they expected there would more significant changes when a new content boss was appointed.
