Prostitution bylaw cost Hamilton $54,000

The prostitution bylaw recently passed by Hamilton City Council cost ratepayers more than $54,000.

Public consultation expenses for the drafting of the bylaw reached $16,000 and $6400 was spent on legal fees.

A further $18,000 was spent on questionnaires and survey reports and the bill for the printing and copying of 1000 submissions was more than $7800.

A council spokesman said the figure did not include a cost for staff time, which was not recorded against individual projects.
