A woman, believed to be a prostitute visiting an inmate, has been found in the grounds of Upper Hutt's Rimutaka Prison.
The Corrections Department confirmed yesterday that the woman was found an authorised area of the prison and it was investigating the incident.
It would not comment on whether or not she was a prostitute.
The Dominion Post reported today an inmate used a cellphone smuggled into the prison to contact the woman to arrange the visit.
It is understood he was found with the cellphone and $150.
