Police are carrying out a scene examination after a couple were attacked in the upmarket Auckland suburb of Herne Bay.
The couple were staying at a rented house on Seymour St when they were confronted by two offenders at 6pm last night.
The male was injured during the confrontation but managed to escape with his partner.
A police spokeswoman said the two offenders ransacked the property and then fled the scene, just off Jervois Rd in central Herne Bay.
The house remains cordoned off and police are collecting evidence.
The spokeswoman said the injured man was treated at Auckland City Hospital but was not admitted as a patient.
"Both victims have spoken with police but have declined to give details about what happened," she said.
It is understood the victims knew the offenders.
A resident in the area said the street was "crawling with cops". She said the house had a "constant flow" of "visitors".
