Prominent New Zealander charged over further alleged sexual offending

A prominent New Zealander is facing a fresh allegation of sex abuse and could face up to 20 years’ imprisonment if convicted.

The Herald revealed last month that the well-known figure had been charged with sexually abusing a male and appeared in the North Shore District Court on the charge.

That alleged offending occurred in Auckland in 1995 and relates to one victim, who police said was over 16 at the time.

The indecent charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.

The Herald now understands that the well-known New Zealander is also facing an additional charge and is accused of unlawful sexual connection.

That charge comes with a maximum penalty of up to 20 years. He is due to appear in court next week.

The court on Thursday declined to provide further information regarding the man’s case or provide charging documents.

His lawyer declined to comment.
