Prison visitors facing drug smuggling charges

Two prisoners' mothers and a girlfriend are facing criminal charges, after trying to smuggle drugs.

They were caught last Friday and Saturday at Spring Hill prison, with a total of 200 grams of cannabis between them.

Prison manager Gavin Dalziel says the haul has highlighted the pressure on visitors, especially women, to supply drugs.

He says it is a shame the people who need to support their partners in prison are being pushed into this sort of situation.
