Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has shared a Christmas Eve photo of the Luxon household donning matching festive pyjamas, carrying on one of their relatively recent family traditions.
Keeping with the Christmas colour scheme, the Prime Minister, his wife Amanda, and children Olivia, 23, and William, 25,have dressed in green this year – after all wearing red pyjamas on December 24 last year.
“Christmas pyjamas and Christmas movies. Keeping our tradition going. Happy Christmas everyone,” Luxon captioned the photo posted to social media tonight.
The Christmas movie of choice in the past has been the classic Love Actually, starring Hugh Grant as the recently-elected British Prime Minister.
The Luxons will welcome their extended families to Premier House in Wellington for a second Christmas running tomorrow – with the holiday also marking the first day of the Prime Minister’s summer break.
“Christmas is about bringing families together and hosting at Premier House will be a way of thanking them and appreciating all their support through the year as well,” Luxon told Woman’s Weekly this month.
Dignitary Protection Service (DPS) officers will also be in attendance.

Other Christmas traditions in the Luxon household include a spot of backyard cricket after lunch and congregating for a Secret Santa gift-giving ceremony.
The Prime Minister and his wife will share the cooking duties, preparing the turkey, roast potatoes and lamb. Their 20 guests will each bring a dish to add to the table.
“You don’t enter into this job unless you’ve got a really good family unit around you,” Luxon told Woman’s Day last year.
“Amanda, William and Olivia have been fantastic, and the extended family as well. So that’s what I’m really looking forward to about Christmas, just a chance to catch up, thank everyone and shoot the breeze with different family members. Christmas is a season where, among the busyness and festivities, Amanda and I always take some time to feel grateful.”
