A prestigious private school for the arts has gone into receivership.
The Corelli International Academic School of the Arts, in the North Shore suburb of Browns Bay in Auckland, was taken over by receivers on April 7.
The private school, which charges up to $16,320 a year for senior pupils,caters to visual and performing arts and music students.
In a public notice, the school, trading under the company name Ardern Holdings Ltd, said it had been taken over by Parnell-based receivers Meltzer Mason.
"The property in receivership is all the company's undertaking, property and assets," the notice said.
A spokesman for Meltzer Mason was not immediately available.
Act Party leader David Seymour said it was "deeply disappointing to see such a respected private school threatened with closure due to financial obstacles".
Corelli School is closed for the holidays. Its website says the school "boasts a boutique learning environment that is rich in diversity, expression and progressiveness". Its students are "high academic achievers who are motivated by a vibrant and creative culture that exists here".
Corelli International Academic School of the Arts was founded in 2001 by husband and wife David and Kirsten Selfe, who is the principal of the school, to foster a "creative immersion ? where the arts played a major role in a children's school curriculum", according to its website.
