Pregnant woman in hospital after fire

A heavily pregnant Tauranga woman has been taken to hospital after a large fire which left her home gutted.

The house in Gate Pa was completely enveloped in black smoke when fire fighters arrived just after midday.

Senior Station Officer Nigel Liddicoat said the Fire Service was unsure how the fire started. He said it appeared to have spread from the rear bedroom to the front of the house.

A two year-old boy was also taken to hospital for treatment.
