The rewards of the annual Wairarapa College Prefects Camp have been again taken back to the classrooms, halls, and grounds of the school, says Year 13 Dean Charmaine Nelson.
Mrs Nelson said 24 prefects, including the head boy and girl and their deputies, had spent three days based at TauherenikauRace Course tackling workshops, rafting, cooking and "working out what they can offer the school".
"The annual camp is successful for the prefects because they come back ready to put back into the college," Mrs Nelson said.
"They realise the prefect badge is about action, not position and receiving the badge and going on camp is only the start of being a prefect - they prove their worth over the year."
Camp guest speaker MP Ron Mark was an inspirational speaker and an approachable leader, Mrs Nelson said, who also judged the Masterchef competition for a special evening meal at the camp.
Other activities for the students included sharing a meaningful personal reflection of who inspires them most as a leader, with many speaking of their parents and grandparents.
The students also discussed leadership styles, personal leadership qualities and what they can individually offer the college.
Prefects this year had an added responsibility regarding "leading portfolios within the school including ICT, arts and cultures, sports, academic, community and citizenship", Mrs Nelson said.
