Powercuts across Far North

The power is off in the Far North for the day for urgent maintenance on the 110 kilovolt transmission line into Kaitaia.

It went off at eight o'clock this morning and will remain off until about five o'clock this afternoon.

The cut affects Taupo Bay on the East Coast and all districts north of the Mangamuka Gorge.

Electricity is also be off in all districts north of the Hokianga Harbour, apart from Kohokohu township and a few surrounding areas.

Te Paki in the north and all towns and districts in between and including Kaitaia are also without power.

Transpower's Adele Fitzpatrick is warning people to turn electrical gear off.
