She said she wished people would leave other people's property alone.
They have not spoken to police and know nothing about the stabbing.
Police are investigating after a man was found with what is believed to be a stab wound to his abdomen in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, this morning.
Police have cordoned off a block of living units at 148 Randwick Cres, where residents say the victim lives.
"He's a lovely guy," one man said. "Quiet as."
Others said the victim would always wave to them when he saw them. One called him a "gentle giant". "He wouldn't hurt a bloody fly."
People in forensic gear can be seen scouring the apartment block, taking photos and looking through a black ute at the scene.
Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said the man was found by a member of the public near the railway tracks by Awamutu Gr just after 8am.
The man was taken to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.
