Barnett decides against standing on Labour list

Christchurch Central MP Tim Barnett has abandoned the idea of standing on the Labour list at the general election.

Mr Barnett said last October he would not stand again for the Christchurch Central seat, but left open the possibility of a list nomination.

"Many have encouraged me to pursue that. However, there are exciting horizons beyond Parliament and I am keen to explore them," he told The Press newspaper.

Former Marlborough Express editor Brendon Burns is the Labour candidate for Christchurch Central.
