Police say they are looking into the relationship between a senior policewoman and pornography film-maker Steve Crow.
Gaylene Rogers, a prosecuting sergeant in Auckland, is engaged to marry Crow - who has 33 criminal convictions for distributing objectionable material and shot to prominence last year over plans to film a womangiving birth.
Police national media manager Jon Neilson said police were aware of Ms Rogers' situation which was "being looked at".
Police are told not to associate with people with a criminal history.
"As far as I'm aware it's very much at a departmental level that it's being looked into ... it's very much a case of ... needing to know exactly what the situation is," Mr Neilson said.
Crow told the Sunday Star-Times yesterday that Ms Rogers was devastated by the police inquiry into their relationship.
"She was gutted. She's been seven or eight years with the police and has a flawless record and is incredibly dedicated at what she does and loves her job.
"She was a basket-case for weeks, bawling her eyes out. It nearly destroyed her.
"It made me incredibly angry. She's my fiancee and I'm very protective."
Crow said the couple never talked about work, and Ms Rogers had told her boss of the relationship soon after they met through friends last year.
"She has completely and utterly been above-board."
