Police working to identify Waiheke body

Police are still working to identify a body found at a Waiheke Island reserve yesterday.

Auckland City Police launched an investigation after a member of the public found the body about 2pm yesterday while walking near Ocean View Road.

Officers were onsite yesterday investigating, but no further details have been released.

A police spokeswoman said more information was due to be released this afternoon.

It was unknown whether the body belongs to a male or female or how long it might have been there.

A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today.

Waiheke Local Board member Becs Ballard said she understood the body was found at the Atawhai-Whenua Reserve, a popular walking route for those heading to and from the island's ferry terminal.
