Police have urged motorists to take extra care after two people died on Waikato roads within four hours of each other last night.
"Waikato roads are extremely busy this weekend due to Auckland Anniversary holiday, and the numerous events being held in both the Waikato and Coromandel areas," said SeniorSergeant Gael Mockford from Hamilton Police.
The first crash occurred along Te Ohaki Rd, Huntly about 6.30pm where a 15-year-old pillion passenger died.
The driver also suffered injuries and was taken to Waikato Hospital.
Police were appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident or saw a Harley Davidson motorbike in the area to contact them.
The second fatality involved two motorcycles colliding on Koromatua Rd in Temple View about 10.20pm last night.
One male rider died at the scene and the second was taken to Waikato Hospital in serious condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the causes of both crashes, but said it appeared that alcohol and a lack of safety helmets were involved in the second crash.
