Police swarm Grey Lynn street in Auckland after bomb threat at Returned Services Club

Cordons have been lifted at a street in Grey Lynn after a person made a bomb threat involving the local Returned Services Club.

Police were notified about 9.40am of a threatening phone call involving the RSC on Francis St.

At least six police cars were sent to the scene and the street cordoned off. Addresses in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution.

However police said they were now "confident there was no validity to the threat".

The cordons have been lifted and the scene has been cleared.

"We are making enquiries to identify and locate the person responsible for the making the call."

A person who answered the phone at the club confirmed a person had called the club and made a bomb threat.

Everyone was "hunky dory", he said. He declined to comment further.

A worker in a bakery nearby said police had told her there was a bomb threat - but they had not been able to find any device.

She had been told she was safe to stay in the building.
