UPDATE 3.20PM
A firearms incident north of Kerikeri has been resolved with a 53-year-old man taken into police custody.
He was arrested without trouble about 3pm. No charges have been laid as yet.
UPDATE 1.45PM
Police are asking the public to stay away from an area near Kerikeri where they have surrounded a house after receiving a report that a man was holding a firearm.
The incident is taking place at a property off State Highway 10 just north of the Kerikeri roundabout.
Police have set up cordons around the house, at the end of Springbank Lane and the end of Poplar Lane.
SH10 remains open.
Neighbours have been evacuated as a precaution and police are asking the public to stay away from the area.
The Whangarei-based Armed Offenders Squad surrounded the house about 1pm.
The Kerikeri Fire Brigade and St John Ambulance are also on hand as a precaution.
12:00PM
Police have put in cordons around a Northland house after reports of a man with a gun.
Armed police converged on a property off SH10 just north the Kerikeri roundabout about 11.20am today.
There were police at both ends of Poplar Lane and residents were unable to get to their houses and instead were waiting at Redwood Cafe.
The Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) from Whangarei have been sent to the scene.
