Whangarei woman Andrea Jenkins wrote on Facebook on Sunday at 11.27am that her house in Onerahi had been robbed and her family's belongings smashed.
Police confirmed the burglary was reported on Sunday at 3.21am via the crime reporting line.
Ms Jenkins said those that had broken in had taken all of her family's food and her kids' belongings.
She wrote: "You make me sick! So close to xmas too!"
Alongside the post - which has been "liked" more than 6000 times and "shared" over 4000 times - she attached a photo of a driver's license and hat.
Ms Jenkins said the ID and hat had been left behind and there was now also "blood all over [her] house".
In a comment she said the blood was all through her son's room, which they could not touch until police came to fingerprint.
"[You] won't get away with it," she wrote.
Yesterday afternoon she posted again, this time to thank "everybody who shared our post on the burglary".
"We are overwhelmed by all the kindness and caring," Ms Jenkins said.
"A super huge thank you to those who helped with information..."
The owner of the licence has not responded to the Herald's request for comment.
