Police seek witness after young girl stalked home

A young schoolgirl was followed home by an unidentified male after jumping off a bus after school yesterday.

A police spokesman said Timaru Police were investigating following yesterday's incident.

He said the 12-year-old Waimataitai School girl was dropped off on Morgan's Rd yesterday afternoon.

"On her way home, she was followed by an unknown male from Morgans Rd to Murchison Drive."

He said the young girl was then picked up by a woman who noticed the man was following her.

The man continued to walk along Murchison Drive, until the pair lost sight of him.

The spokesman said the man was described as light-coloured Maori aged between 25 and 35.

He was of a medium build and was wearing a dark green and brown jersey and dark jeans, and had short facial hair in a beard form.

Police would now like to speak to the woman who offered the young girl a ride and asked her to contact Timaru Police.
