Police hunting a man who held up a Wellington suburban post bank this afternoon are hoping his distinctive clothing might give him away.
The robber entered the Miramar shop about 2.50pm and handed a note to a teller demanding cash. He indicated he had a firearm.
Police believe he mayhave been waiting in a queue with other customers for some minutes before reaching the teller and committing the robbery. The man left the post shop with an undisclosed sum of money shortly afterward.
"Police are becoming increasingly concerned at the frequency of these types of robberies. Thankfully no one was injured during this potentially dangerous incident," Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell of Wellington police said.
He appealed for public help in catching the offender described as Maori or Polynesian, aged 30 to 40, of medium to solid build
He was wearing a black and white jacket, grey pants, black narrow brimmed hat and white shoes.
He was carrying a large green plastic shopping bag containing a smaller black bag.
