"We would like persons that know him or see him to get into contact with us. Likewise, if Mr McKee hears this I would like him to make contact with us and arrange to come in and see us."
Lendrum said the victim did not live at the address and had only been there overnight Friday.
"Part of the investigation will be to profile the victim and persons of interests. As I say we do know that the deceased and the person of interest, Mr Mckee, know each other so we're working to establish why they met this morning at that address."
The victim knew McKee and the two were thought to have been arguing just prior to the shooting.
It was thought that McKee, who is has links to the south Auckland region, is armed and should not be approached.
Both the victim and McKee were known to police.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on the victim tomorrow morning.
