Police reassure public after missing kayaker off Kāpiti Coast found safe

The person associated with an unattended kayak discovered yesterday off the Kāpiti Coast has been identified, police said today.

The kayaker has been located safe and well.

Yesterday, police said there were fears a kayaker may have been missing off the Kāpiti Coast after a kayak and personal belongings were discovered.

Police said they were working to determine the circumstances surrounding an unattended kayak located about 500m off Raumati Beach at midday.

A piece of clothing was also spotted at Raumati Beach.

The kayak that was found was blue and appeared to have been filled with fishing equipment, nets and ropes.

“We’re making inquiries to understand the circumstances of this.

“We have found these items and want to make sure everyone is safe,” police said.

Police asked anyone who may have had information about the kayak, or the top, to please call 111, or use the 105 service, and quote event number P064619223.
