Police release name of man killed in Wairoa shooting

UPDATE - Police this afternoon released the name of a man who died after a shooting in Wairoa last night.

Vance Christie, 24, died en route to Hastings Hospital.

Wairoa police, and the Gisborne and Napier armed offenders squads, were called to a house about 11pm last night after the shooting was reported, police said in a statement.

Mr Christie was flown to Hastings Hospital, but died en route.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting.

"Occupants of the address have been spoken to by police and are assisting with the enquiries," the statement said.

Detectives from Gisborne were today carrying out a scene examination and area inquiries.
