Police raid on Canterbury home uncovers weapons and possible items for manufacture of meth

A police raid on a Canterbury home uncovered a number of items believed to be involved in the manufacture of methamphetamine, as well as a variety of ammunition.

Detective Inspector Greg Murton said a search warrant was executed on a rural property in Magnet Bay, Banks Peninsula.

A 38-year-old man, who is the occupant of the property, was arrested late last night by Christchurch Police.

Police attempted to pull him over while driving in New Brighton but he failed to stop and the unit pursued him for a time.

He was arrested shortly before 11pm on Owles Terrace.

He appeared in Christchurch District Court this morning and was remanded in custody.

He is facing the following charges:

- Possession of methamphetamine for supply
- Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous driving x2
- Failing to stop for Police
- Possession of methamphetamine utensils
- Unlawful possession of an airgun
- Unlawful possession of ammunition
- Possession of an offensive weapon

Further charges, relating to the finding of what is believed to be a clandestine methamphetamine manufacturing laboratory at the Magnet Bay property, are likely to follow.

Testing on items uncovered from the property is being undertaken however results will not be known for some weeks.

A further property, in New Brighton, connected to the person charged, was also searched under warrant this morning, and other enquiries are continuing.
