Police have recovered a boat which was floating upside down north of Tauranga and are seeking information to help find the owners.
The 5.6m fibreglass Sea Nymph with the name Optimist was spotted 2.5 nautical miles south of Mayor Island (Tuhua).
It had a 150hp Mercury outboard motor on
it.
A low-flying aircraft spotted the overturned boat and notified police.
The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter and the Waihi Coastguard responded and carried out an extensive search of the area but no one was found.
