Police say they are powerless to stop a group of young Auckland men who boast of filming themselves having sex with underage girls then publicly shame them on social media.
Police told 3News today it was not yet a crime for the men - most 18 years old - to film the sex with often drunk and underage girls and then publicly name and shame them on Facebook.
The group call themselves the 'Roast Busters' and police have known about them since 2011, but say there is nothing they can do until a girl is "brave enough" to come forward and make a formal complaint.
"None of the girls have been brave enough to make formal statements to us so we can take it to a prosecution stage...clearly they're traumatised by it," said Detective Inspector Bruce Scott.

He said the group's actions were hugely disturbing. "But without actual evidence, my hands are tied."
Police had warned the men their actions were bordering on illegal and had asked them to stop.
Mr Scott said some of them had stopped associating with the group, but others had not taken the warning on board.
The Roast Busters Facebook page was taken down within two hours of 3News contacting them.
