Revellers celebrating the All Black world cup victory were well-behaved in the main city centres, police say.
Auckland Senior Sergeant Scott Leonard said although there were a "huge amount of patrons in bars" this morning, everyone was generally well-behaved.
Mr Leonard said there was "a bit of disorder" in the Auckland City centre after the match finished and arrests were made for intoxicated party-goers.
"It kept us busy for a while.
"Once they came out of the bars, obviously the excitement of the win took over and there was lots of yelling and screaming and running around on the streets.
"Just lots of silly stuff."
In an isolated incident, a 28-year-old foreign man is in currently in critical condition after an assault outside a Viaduct bar early this morning.
The man was drinking with friends when he was punched to the ground by one man and believed to be further assaulted by another.
Mr Leonard said although there were some arrests made this morning, he couldn't pin it down to bad behaviour.
"The overall behaviour was good."
The World Cup final also coincided with the annual Auckland Marathon this year and this meant there were more Police monitoring the city.
General Police as well as Alcohol Harm staff and Road Policing Units were also on duty.
Christchurch Police had a relatively easy night as patrons were well-behaved, Senior Constable Logan Steele said.
"The overall behaviour was good."
He said he wasn't aware of any arrests made throughout the morning but were still monitoring the situation.
"People celebrating all day, that in itself can get people to over-indulge."
Rugby fans in the capital were also well-behaved, central communications inspector Mike Coleman said.
"We're quite pleased with the behaviour.
"We didn't have any incidents of disorder since this morning."
